5 Bed Ideas For Van Builds | What Bed Is Best For Your Van Conversion?

Dinette Bed
This bed is a classic, you may have seen this design used in RV's, boats or caravans. It works by adjusting the table height to either create a bed base or a dinette.

This bed is an extremely efficient use of space. Each bench has storage underneath, and you will be able to easily fit 4-6 people around the table.

This U-shaped model has queen sized mattress dimensions. If you remove the rear bench, the dinette becomes a twin size bed.

L-Couch Pullout Bed
One of the most common beds people use when creating their vans is the pullout couch.

It is very easy and affordable to make, and there are many tutorials on Youtube on how to recreate this bed.

We created an L-shape in order to create more storage space underneath the couch, and add room for a second person to lounge during the day.

Fixed Platform Bed
This is a popular design for people that do not like to make their beds every day. It also is great if you need to store large items in your van: ie, bikes, surfboards, etc..

A huge downside is that it takes up lots of space during the day, so we suggest using a fixed bed in a long wheel base van.

If you want to bring your comfortable mattress from home with you, this is a good option. You won't have to cut up foam or create any custom mattresses to fit your van, you can just build a platform and throw any regular mattress on top.

Murphy Bed
The classic disappearing bed. If you need tons of floor space during the day, the Murphy Bed is for you.

Like the fixed bed, you don't have to convert your bed into another piece of furniture every day. All you need to do is fold up your entire mattress into the wall.
This means you can just use regular unmodified mattresses.

A downside is that you lose out on storage, and you do lose square footage in your van during the day.

This is a great option if you don't want to have to make your bed every day, but you don't want a fixed bed taking up all your space during the day.
